Getting to the Temple of Literature in Hanoi

The Temple of Literature is in Hanoi's Dong Da district, about 2-3 km west of Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. The entrance is at 58 Quoc Tu Giam Street, facing Van Lake; you leave at the other end, on Van Mieu Street.

By Grab or taxi from Hoan Kiem Lake

The quickest way from the Old Quarter. Enter "Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam" in the app so the driver stops at the main gate.

  1. Ride to Quoc Tu Giam Street

    8-12 min

    Book a Grab car or motorbike, or take a taxi, to 58 Quoc Tu Giam.

  2. Ticket counter at the main gate

    Buy your ticket at the entrance, across the street from Van Lake, and go in through Van Mieu Gate.

  3. Walk north through the courtyards

    The path runs straight through all five courtyards to Thai Hoc House at the back.

  4. Leave on Van Mieu Street

    The exit is at 19-21 Van Mieu Street. A second path leads out through Giam Garden to Ton Duc Thang Street.

By metro and bus

Cat Linh station on metro Line 2A is about 700 m away, a 10-minute walk from the temple.

Buses 02, 41, E08 and E09 stop opposite 40 Ton Duc Thang Street, beside Giam Garden. Bus 38 stops at the entrance, 58 Quoc Tu Giam Street.
